Dear Friends,

We hope that you are safe and well.

Today's Meditation presents Jan Phillips' poem on "What is a Mystic." It comes to us from Donna Gaspar--it reminded her of our Sunday Eucharist theme.

We invite you to join us as we commit ourselves to working tirelessly to end systemic and structural racism in our society, in the church, in healthcare, in the workplace--wherever it shows up so that everyone may come to have more abundant life. May this meditation nourish our contemplative-active hearts and sustain all of us in action.

In the spirit of our philosophy of co-creating community and our awareness that the Spirit speaks through each of us, we invite you to share your meditations with us as well. We truly believe that it is God's economy of abundance: when we share our blessings, our thoughts, our feelings, we are all made richer.

We hope and pray that you find peace, healing, hope and the infusion of joy in your life!

With our love and care,

Ron and Jean

MEDITATION 619: "What is a Mystic" Jan Phillips

What Is a Mystic?

Someone who has mastered abandon.

Someone who is mad for mystery,

who seeks out uncertainty,

who picks doubt for a dance partner.

A mystic is someone who lights the candle

and cries for joy,

crazy in love with No One.

A mystic doesn’t argue about God,

defend God,

crusade for God.

A mystic is a burning bush,

a spark of the Holy Bonfire,

the one in the corner

laughing at Nothing.

Don’t look for bruised knees, bowed heads,

hands clasped or beating breasts.

Don’t listen for mea culpa,

talk of sin, right or wrong.

If you’re looking for a mystic

look in the forest, not a church.

Look for someone with an apron on,

with work boots and gloves.

Look for someone who’s pitching in,

helping out, someone doing something

to set this world aright.

A mystic makes breakfast

of the Great Beloved

and all day long

metabolizes love.
